EUTM Somalia offers prospects for Somali Military
Military training is not only about how to handle a weapon. It is about instilling the knowledge, skills and mindset necessary to build a future where peace can thrive. With a variety of trainings, EUTM-S shares its knowledge with their partner SNAF to achieve these goals. Focus areas for training are developed in cooperation with SNAF, making sure it is beneficial.
An example is the Basic Infantry Officer Course organized by EUTM-S. The aim is to train military personnel, equipping them with the necessary tools for planning and executing operations up to the Platoon level. It covers a wide range of fundamental knowledges, including tactical operations, map reading, and physical training, all essential for effective military performance. By focusing on practical training and operational readiness, the course plays a crucial role in strengthening the Somali Armed Forces. The skills gained through this challenging and intense program are fundamental for ensuring Somalia’s long-term security and stability.
For the higher echelons EUTM-S provides the Senior Officer Course, a pivotal program for the SNAF. This course is designed to train Senior Officers and equip them with the essential skills required for leadership and military operations. The syllabus covers a wide range of topics, including planning, operational command, and leadership in complex environments. By enhancing the capabilities of Somali military leaders, the course plays a key role in strengthening the country’s Security Forces.
Not all training is kinetic. To sustain a force other things are needed. Just as in society. On January 22nd and 23rd at EUTM-S Headquarter the 2nd “Damage control surgery – Abdominal surgery” Seminar took place. Organized by the EUTM Somalia Advisory Team and attended by 6 doctors from Xoogaa Army Hospital of Mogadishu.
The seminar aimed to further enhance the medical knowledge of doctors within the military medical system, ultimately improving the expertise of personnel at Xoogaa Army Hospital. Over the course of two days, the seminar concentrated on offering the latest guidelines and updates regarding the surgical treatment of trauma patients, with a particular emphasis on damage control surgery and resuscitation techniques.
EUTM-S continues to support the SNAF using a “Three Pillar Approach” of training, mentoring and advice.
