Haiti: Statement by the Spokesperson on the attacks in Cité Soleil
The European Union strongly condemns the massacre in Cité Soleil, where over 180 lives, including many older people, were taken in an act of extreme brutality perpetrated by the Wharf Jérémie gang. This atrocity marks another escalation in the violence engulfing Haiti and highlights the urgent need for decisive measures to address the crisis.
The EU stresses the critical importance of the full deployment of the Multinational Security Support Mission (MSSM) to combat gang violence, restore the rule of law, and protect the Haitian population from further atrocities.
To support these efforts, the European Union will continue to mobilise all available tools, including targeted sanctions against those responsible for such acts, to help restore peace, stability, democracy, and security in Haiti.
We remain committed to working alongside regional and international partners of Haiti to address the profound humanitarian challenges and to pave the way toward sustainable security and lasting stability for its people.
