Who we are
The Delegation in South Africa is one of the over 140 Delegations of the European Union worldwide.
South Africa is the only country in Africa with a Strategic Partnership with the European Union.
The European Union is South Africa’s first investment and trade partner and as partners we cooperate on key areas of common interest and challenge.
South Africa is a major diplomatic hub and the European Union Delegation works in close coordination with the 22 out of 27 European Union Member States who have a diplomatic presence in South Africa: Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czechia, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Lithuania, the Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Spain and Sweden.
What we do
The European Union Delegation to South Africa works to:
- deepen the political dialogue with South Africa on all issues of mutual interest, within the framework of the overarching European Union-South Africa Trade, Development and Cooperation Agreement;
- promote the values and policies of the European Union and inform South Africa about the policies and programmes of the EU, as well as its institutions, in an open and equal partnership with the Government and people of South Africa;
- implement the European Union Common Foreign and Security Policy, and promote transformative development and trade policies and shared values such as human rights, and the rule of law;
- foster Team Europe collaboration in support of South Africa, alongside the European Union Member States’ Embassies in South Africa;
