Venezuela: Statement by the Spokesperson on recent decisions by the Venezuelan authorities

15.01.2025 EEAS Press Team

The European Union deeply regrets and rejects the decision by the Venezuelan authorities to substantially reduce the accredited diplomatic staff of several Member States in Caracas. We stand in full solidarity with the affected Member States. The EU urges the immediate reversal of this unilateral and unacceptable action, which only serves to deepen Venezuela's international isolation and undermines bilateral relations with the EU and its Member States.

Recalling the statement by the High Representative on behalf of the European Union issued on 10 January, the EU reaffirms its unwavering commitment to the Venezuelan people and to defending democracy, rule of law and human rights.

The EU will support meaningful steps toward genuine dialogue and a democratic transition in Venezuela.
