Applying a Protection Lens with Early Recovery Approaches: Preventing New Cycles of Violence in Northwest Syria

The session will include two panels with different Syrian NGOs addressing concrete guiding questions, followed by Q&A sessions:
Panel 1: IDPs approach on rights violations and opportunities for transitional justice
Three Syrian organizations working on documentation of human rights violations, the provision of legal services and Housing Land and Property rights will discuss the developments in Northwest Syria on transitional justice and rights restitution, the actions and initiatives needed to improve communities’ capacities to engage in future mechanisms as well as the lessons learned on programs related to transitional, justice and rights documentation.
Panel 2: Communities perspectives on peaceful coexistence and social cohesion as tools to prevent new cycles of violence.
Syrian NGOs will discuss whether conditions are set in Northwest Syria for peaceful coexistence, for the engagement of communities, identifying also existing opportunities and good practices. In this panel, the discussion will also shed light on the relationship between peaceful coexistence, social cohesion, and the prevention of new cycles of violence and forced displacement.
