EU Indo-Pacific Ministerial Forums

EU Indo-Pacific Ministerial Forums have become a regular fixture to exchange ideas and views on cooperation in the region.

Since the beginning of the EU Indo-Pacific Strategy in 2021, EU Indo-Pacific Ministerial Forums are an important platform to lay the groundwork for deeper ties, stronger partnerships and greater cooperation and collaboration between the EU and Indo-Pacific nations.

During this recurring event, the countries confront global challenges and recognise their increasingly intertwined prosperity and security.

They reaffirm their commitment to upholding a rules-based international order and supporting global stability. Recognizing the importance of inclusive growth, they pledge to promote sustainable economic development and prioritize human development efforts. Addressing climate change remains a central focus, with a determination to accelerate the transition to green energy and protect biodiversity.

Building on the success of two previous events (Paris, February 2022 and Stockholm, May 2023) the third EU Indo-Pacific Ministerial Forumin Brussels (February 2024) was an important step for the enhancement of the strategic cooperation between the EU and the Indo-Pacific region.

Approximately 70 participants from the EU institutions and EU Member States, Indo-Pacific countries and regional organisations from the East coast of Africa to the Pacific island states took part.

Three parallel roundtables provided an opportunity for participants to discuss ways to enhance cooperation and deepen solidarity in the areas of

  1. Shared prosperity, economic resilience, and investments.
  2. The Green Transition – partnering for a sustainable future.
  3. Geopolitical and security challenges in the Indo-Pacific.
