Youth voices for sustainable peace in Syria: Youth Representatives leading the way
The upcoming session will showcase an exceptional initiative led by Syrian youth, who were elected as representatives through a project funded by the EU in collaboration with Door Beyond War and Youth of Change Network. This initiative, spearheaded by youth-led Community-Based Organizations (CBOs) and Local Development Committees (LDCs), has empowered young leaders to oversee various stages of the electoral process. They have taken charge of designing and leading listening campaigns and conducting need assessments for youth aged 18 to 29. Additionally, they have been instrumental in designing election programs and leading dialogues and debates.
These youth representatives are now actively addressing the priorities of their peers through initiatives designed and led in a participatory manner, involving over 50 CBOs and LDCs. The session aims to showcase how Syrian youth have effectively led this process, bringing about significant changes at every phase and ultimately taking ownership of the transformation. They are emerging as true agents for sustainable peace in Syria.
This initiative underscores the immense potential of young people in Syria and emphasizes the importance of nurturing their leadership and involvement in community initiatives. By transferring knowledge, skills, and resources from established NGOs to youth-led organizations, Syrian youth are being equipped to drive positive change and play a pivotal role in building a peaceful future for their country.
Moreover, the session will not only highlight the achievements of Syrian youth but also provide valuable recommendations for NGOs interested in collaborating with youth and youth-led CBOs. Additionally, it will serve as a platform to encourage collaborations among Syrians from various
regions, with the aim of amplifying the independent and free voices of youth nationwide. This collaborative effort is crucial for fostering a diverse and inclusive space where youth can continue to lead and contribute to sustainable peace and development in Syria.
