Syrian women’s Perspectives on the Future Shape of the Syria State: Challenges and aspirations
This side event will bring together a variety of stakeholders from high-level policymakers to critical members of the Syrian non-governmental organisations - each of which yields remarkable power in ensuring that the perspectives captured through the Movement’s activities are taken beyond the walls of a meeting.
The event’s main goals are:
1. Highlight the first-hand voices of Syrian women within the state’s borders and beyond on matters of religion and the relationship center and periphery;
2. Identify potential paths forward to pursuing their vision to shape the future state of Syria;
3. Call on a diverse range of representatives from the international community to strengthen engagement around feminist perspectives on peace and political processes.
This in-person event will feature members of the SWPM sharing their perspectives, on the margins of the 2024 “Supporting the future of Syria and the region” Brussels VIII, Day of Dialogue Conference. The floor will be open for an hour long Q & A session. The event will be accompanied by a simultaneous translation in English and Arabic to ensure all interested parties can meaningfully engage.
Following the session, the SWPM will host a reception for networking and an opportunity for interviews and collecting impressions by SWPM media officer Mouna Katoub. The reception will also highlight the Movement’s touring exhibition, “Wave,” which tells the story of Syrian women’s movements towards raising their participation on political decision making tables since the beginning of the 20th century.
