The session will discuss the role assigned to the media in building the peace culture, and how can it contribute to localizing that culture and strengthening civil peace? By avoiding the negative practices in the media, such as incitement to violence, hatred, discrimination, stereotyping and misinformation, and promoting constructive media practices, which call for social cohesion and peaceful coexistence between the various components and sects of Syrian society. On the other hand, the possibility of the media, through its constructive practices, playing its role as a fourth authority which put pressure on the actors.

The session will highlight the possible actors and mechanisms for achieving peace in Syria, and address the media coverage of wars and the tools, functions and trends that can be relied upon during war coverage. Participants also will discuss the preventive role of peace journalism by reducing incitement to violence and hatred and promoting constructive media practices, in addition to the reality of the culture of peace and indicators of peaceful coexistence.

At the end of the session, participants will discuss practical solutions to promote the role of peace journalism, and come up with suggestions and recommendations.
