Justice, accountability and refugee returns: where are human rights?

The webinar will focus on the situation of Syrian refugees and internally displaced people in Syria and in neighbouring countries, addressing the issue of forced returns and expulsions through the lenses of justice and accountability.

The conditions inside Syria are not yet conducive for safe, dignified and voluntary returns of Syrian refugees. During the webinar, a research on refugee return policies and practices from Lebanon and Turkey to Syria will be presented. Speakers will include:

  • Mr Wadih Al-Asmar, EuroMed Rights President, and President of the Lebanese Centre for Human rights
  • Mr Mazen Darwish, Director General and Founder of the the Syrian Center for Media and Freedom of Expression (SCM)
  • Ms Majeda Ibrahim Krban, Urnammu and the Voices for Displaced Syrians Forum (VDSF)
  • Dr Jill Alpes, Senior Researcher, Human Rights Centre, Ghent University
  • Mr Baris Karacasu, IHD Turkey
  • Dr Zeynep Mencütek, contributing scholar
