EU-CELAC Roadmap & Summits

A dynamic partnership

The Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC) represents a regional political coordination mechanism, which gathers all 33 Latin American and Caribbean countries in the region. CELAC is the EU's official counterpart for the region-to-region Summit process and strategic partnership. This includes the implementation of a Roadmap of bi-regional initiatives in many sectors. Currently Honduras holds the Pro-Tempore Presidency (PPT) of CELAC while Colombia will follow from March 2025.

Three EU-CELAC summits took place so far: in Santiago de Chile in 2013, in Brussels in 2015 and in 2023. The last EU-CELAC Summit on 17 July 2023 gave an important impulse to the relations between the EU and Latin America and the Caribbean by resuming bi-regional dialogue at the highest level. Joint work has expanded since then and partners have increased their cooperation on a wide range of areas of common interest. Leaders also committed to organising Summits every two years as included in the joint declaration stemming from the 2023 meeting.
