China: High Representative/Vice-President Kaja Kallas met with Foreign Minister Wang Yi
EU High Representative/Vice President Kaja Kallas met today with China’s Foreign Minister Wang Yi. They discussed the state of EU-China bilateral relations and the broader geopolitical situation. The HR/VP reiterated the EU’s readiness to continue with dialogue and cooperate in selected areas, such as trade, economic affairs, and climate change.
On Russia, Kaja Kallas emphasised that China’s export of dual-use goods contributes to the build-up of Moscow’s military-industrial base and fuels its war against Ukraine. She called on China to halt these exports, underlining the threat that Russia’s war poses to European security. The HR/VP reiterated that all responsible global actors must work towards a just and lasting peace in Ukraine, based on full respect for the UN Charter.
They also discussed preparations for the upcoming 50th anniversary of EU-China relations in 2025 and agreed to hold the next EU-China Strategic Dialogue in Brussels later this year.
