Back in September 2021, I took a very short trip to Ukraine, and I found the people there very nice and welcoming. I’d had this image of Kyiv as a grey post-Soviet city. But I was stunned to see how colourful and full of life this city is, with its river and huge parks.

When Russia started a full-scale invasion of Ukraine on 24th February 2022 it was a shock. I woke up in the morning and was having my usual morning routine before work, and then I checked my phone, and the news was everywhere.

I think most of us have been asking ourselves “What would I do if something like this happened to my country?” It’s been decades since we last worried about that.
