Poland donates 300,000 doses of Astra Zeneca COVID-19 vaccines to Cambodia
The Kingdom of Cambodia has received this morning a donation of 300,000 doses of the AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine from the Republic of Poland. The handover ceremony of the vaccines took place at the Peace Palace, where the shipment was welcomed by H.E. Samdech Techo Hun Sen, Prime Minister of Cambodia, together with H.E. Carmen Moreno, Ambassador of the European Union to Cambodia, representing Poland. Cambodia has received around 1 million doses of Astra Zeneca from EU Member States Sweden, the Netherlands, and now Poland, together with the deliveries from the COVAX mechanism, to which Team Europe (The European Union and it’s Member States) is one of its leading contributors, with over 3 billion EUR pledged so far.
“The COVID-19 pandemic knows no boundaries. Containing the pandemic requires global efforts and acts of solidarity with countries in need. This donation represents the EU solidarity in action and I am happy that Poland can contribute to Team Europe activities in Cambodia that will help accelerate the post-pandemic recovery.” – said Waldemar Dubaniowski, Ambassador of Poland to Cambodia.
“This donation of 300,000 Astra Zeneca doses, made possible thanks to the solidarity and generosity of the people of Poland, is an expression of the commitment of Team Europe to support Cambodia in the fight against COVID-19, and to ensure universal access to vaccines as part of a lasting solution to the pandemic. We will continue to work together with Cambodia towards a sustainable and strong economic recovery and to mitigate the impact of this pandemic on human lives, jobs and livelihoods.” - said Carmen Moreno, EU Ambassador to Cambodia.
The European Union, it’s Member States, and financial institutions acting together as “Team Europe”, pool resources and expertise to jointly tackle the destructive impact of COVID-19 around the world. Team Europe is mobilising additional funding and adapting its programmes to meet the needs of partner countries quickly and coherently, as no one is safe until everyone is safe.
