Human Rights Day Book - Bangladesh, 36 July 2024
The summer of 2024 marked a transformative chapter in Bangladesh’s history. What began as a student-led uprising became a nationwide movement, uniting ordinary people in a fight for dignity, rights, and accountability.
Dhaka’s walls have become a vivid expression of resilience and hope, with murals and street art narrating the story of a nation defying violence and oppression. The symbolic date “36 July” emerged as a way to express the sense that the protests of July could not finish until the transition began, on 5 August.
Released to mark Human Rights Day - 10 December - this book celebrates art and respect for fundamental rights. The murals reflect moments of defiance in the face of injustice, solidarity among citizens, and aspirations for the rule of law.
