AMBASSADOR'S BIOGRAPHY
His Excellency Ambassador Stavros Lambrinidis
His Excellency Ambassador Stavros Lambrinidis has been the Ambassador of the European Union to the United Nations since 1 January 2024.
From 1 March 2019 to 31 December 2023, he served as European Union Ambassador to the United States.
From 2012 to February 2019, he served as the EU Special Representative for Human Rights.
In 2011, he was Foreign Affairs Minister of Greece.
Between 2004-2011, he was twice elected as a Member of the European Parliament with the Greek Social Democratic Party (PASOK). He has served as Vice-President of the European Parliament, Vice-President of the Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs Committee, and Head of the PASOK Delegation.
Between 2000-2004, Ambassador Lambrinidis was Director-General of the International Olympic Truce Centre, an International Olympic Committee organization. His other roles included Ambassador ad personam of the Hellenic Republic, and Secretary-General of the Greek Foreign Ministry for Diaspora Greeks.
Ambassador Lambrinidis was born in Athens in 1962. He studied Economics and Political Science at Amherst College (BA degree 1984) and Law at Yale Law School (JD degree 1988). He is married and has a daughter.

Her Excellency Ambassador Hedda Samson
Ambassador Hedda Samson is a dedicated career diplomat, currently serving as the Deputy Head of the Delegation of the European Union to the United Nations.
She holds a Master's degree in International Studies and Legal & Political Science from the University of Leiden in The Netherlands.
Fluent in several languages, including Dutch, English, and Italian, Ambassador Samson has formerly held the following key roles:
- Ambassador Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to Switzerland and Liechtenstein, Bern, from 2019 to 2023;
- Head of the Political Section/Political Coordinator UN Security Council, Permanent Mission of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to the UN in New York from 2013 to 2019;
- Deputy Head Social and Economic UN Affairs Dept, Ministry of Foreign Affairs in The Hague, The Netherlands from 2010 to 2013;
- First Secretary Human Rights and Social Affairs, Permanent Mission of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to the UN in New York from 2005 to 2010;
- Senior Policy Officer Non-Proliferation, Security Policy Dept at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in The Hague, The Netherlands from 2001 to 2005;
- Second Secretary at the Royal Netherlands Embassy in New Delhi, India, from 1998 to 2001;
- Policy Officer for Human Rights, International Organizations Dept, Ministry of Foreign Affairs in The Hague, The Netherlands, from 1996 to 1998.
With her extensive diplomatic and multilateral experience, Ambassador Samson continues to make valuable contributions to international diplomacy.
