Visa
Visa-free travel between Ukraine and the EU came into force on June 11, 2017. This means that citizens of Ukraine with biometric passports can cross the border with 30 European countries without a visa and stay in the EU countries for no more than 90 days during a 180-day period.
Visa-free travel offers Ukrainians the opportunity of free movement around Europe and provides many opportunities for business, for learning within short-term programs or internships, as well as for spontaneous trips, recreation and visits to friends and relatives.
At the same time, the visa-free regime does not give the right to work in the EU member states. Neither does it imply the right to permanent residence in the EU. For this purpose, it is still necessary to get a special national visa, or a declaration of intention to employ a foreigner or a residence permit.
During the lead-up to visa-free travel, Ukraine implemented a number of important reforms stipulated in the Action Plan on visa liberalization with the EU. The positive results of the visa-free dialogue between Ukraine and the European Union include the establishment of anti-corruption institutions that will reinforce the prevention and fight against corruption, the introduction of a system of electronic declarations of officials’ property, reforms in the areas of migration, security of documents, and integrated border management.
