ABOUT US
Who we are
Togo and the EU base their relations on common values included in the Lisbon Treaty and in the Togolese Constitution defended in international bodies such as the UN. The two partners often speak with one voice on issues ranging from the environment to peace, including the free movement of people and goods, and minority rights.
What we do
The European Union through its institutions has been present in Togo since its independence in 1960.
After the entry into force of the Lisbon Treaty, a reinforced and renewed European Union Delegation was created in 2010 under the aegis of the European External Action Service.
The Delegation of the European Union in Togo has the mandate:
- To ensure the representation of the European Union in Togo.
- To encourage bilateral relations between the European Union and Togo in the political, economic, commercial and cooperation fields.
- To follow the incidence of all the policies of the European Union in Togo.
- To promote and defend the values and interests of the European Union.
- To coordinate with the embassies of the accredited Member States (resident or non-resident) particularly in the fields of the Common Foreign and Security Policy and consular coordination.
- To ensure the management of programs and projects financed by the European Union, in a coordinated manner with the various partners and particularly with the EU Member States.
- To carry out "public diplomacy" actions and to promote press and information actions related to its functions.
