Travel & Study
The European Commission makes every effort to enable people to meet their friends and families and to ensure the free movement of citizens, goods and services. EU citizens have the right to seek help from the embassy or consulate of any EU Member State other than their own if they are in such a situation that they need assistance outside the EU and no embassy or consulate of their own Member State is available.
VISA
The freedom of movement within Europe is the basis of the European integration project. European citizens are free to settle and travel without hindrance within Europe on the basis of their nationality. For non-EU citizens wishing to travel to the EU, it is necessary to obtain a so-called "Schengen" visa, which covers 22 of the 28 EU member states plus Iceland, Norway, Switzerland and Liechtenstein. The visa allows travel within the entire Schengen zone. Nationals of some countries do not need a visa. Six EU member states are not part of the Schengen zone: Bulgaria, Croatia, Ireland, Romania and the United Kingdom.
Visas are issued by EU member states, in Togo, Germany and France.
