Consular protection is the help an EU Member State can provide to its citizens in case they need assistance abroad. Typically, consular protection can include cases such as:

• A need for emergency travel documents;
• A serious accident or serious illness;
• Relief and repatriation in case of an emergency;
• Being a victim of crime;
• Arrest or detention;
• Death.

Germany, France, the Netherlands and Sweden are present in South Sudan. The other twenty-three EU Member States do not have a resident Embassy [/Consulate(s)] in South Sudan but are present in neighbouring countries. 

You are an EU citizen in need of consular protection in South Sudan?

You can contact your resident Embassy [/Consulate(s)]. If your EU Member State is not present in South Sudan, you can turn to one of the EU Member States present. 
Indeed, any EU citizen in a non-EU country where his/her own national State has no representation is entitled to protection by the diplomatic or consular authorities of any other EU country. EU citizens in such a situation are entitled to protection under the same conditions as the nationals of that other EU country.
