ABOUT US
Who we are
The Delegation of the European Union in the Republic of Congo has been located in Brazzaville since 1963 without interruption. The Delegation is a diplomatic mission whose Head of Delegation, Ambassador of the European Union, is accredited to the Congolese Head of State. The DUE is currently headed by H.E.M Raul Mateus Paula, in office since September 2018.
Our Mission
Relations between the European Union and the Republic of Congo are part of the Cotonou Agreement.
A major player in the Republic of Congo, the European Union's mission is to:
- Represent the interests of the European Union and maintain relations with the Congolese people, their institutions and their civil society.
- Coordinate issues relating to political, economic and security cooperation in partnership with the Member States of the European Union accredited to the Congo.
- Cooperate with the authorities of the Republic of Congo as part of an ambitious development program.
Reducing poverty and protecting the vulnerable are the key themes of our cooperation. The Delegation also collaborates with civil society, the private sector, the academic world, the media and many other partners to implement its projects in favour of the Congolese populations and fight against poverty.
Development cannot take place without a political choice: this is why we are maintaining a political dialogue with the Congo, which makes it possible to tackle governance in the broad sense and to discuss regional and international policy. These exchanges are based on the values of democracy, human rights and governance.
The Delegation Team
About thirty employees, women and men, national agents and expatriates carry out the tasks related to the missions of the European Union in the Republic of Congo.
The Delegation is the link between the headquarters of the European Union in Brussels and the Congolese authorities.
