VISA
The Delegation of the European Union does not issue Schengen or any other type of visa.
What is the Schengen Visa?
The border-free Schengen Area guarantees free movement to more than 400 million EU citizens, along with non-EU nationals living in the EU or visiting the EU as tourists, exchange students or for business purposes (anyone legally present in the EU). Free movement of persons enables every EU citizen to travel, work and live in an EU country without special formalities. Schengen underpins this freedom by enabling citizens to move around the Schengen Area without being subject to border checks.
Today, the Schengen Area encompasses most EU countries, except for Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Ireland and Romania. However, Bulgaria, Croatia and Romania are currently in the process of joining the Schengen Area and already applying the Schengen acquis to a large extent. Additionally, also the non-EU States Iceland, Norway, Switzerland and Liechtenstein have joined the Schengen Area.
Citizens from the Philippines are required to hold a visa when travelling to the Schengen Area.
The EU has a common list of countries whose citizens must have a visa when crossing the external borders and a list of countries whose citizens are exempt from that requirement. These lists are set out in Regulation (EU) 2018/1806
Generally, a short-stay visa issued by one of the Schengen States entitles its holder to travel throughout the 26 Schengen States for up to 90 days in any 180-day period. Visas for visits exceeding that period remain subject to national procedures.
Where can I get a Schengen Visa?
You can apply for a Schengen Visa at any participating country consulate in the Philippines.
If you plan on visiting more than one country in your travels in Europe, you should visit the embassy of the country that you plan on spending the most time in. In the event of there not being a particular country where you would spend a clear majority of you time, you should apply for the Schengen Visa at the embassy of the country you will travel to first.
What do I need in order to apply for a Schengen Visa?
In order to apply for a visa, you need:
- a passport with at least two empty pages. The passport should have been issued within the last 10 years. The passport must be valid for at least 3 months beyond the date on which you intend to leave the Schengen territory, or, in the case of multiple journeys, the date on which you intend to leave after the last stay.
- a visa application form completed and signed.
See FAQ on Schengen visas
There is a specific list of documents to to be submitted by applicants for short stay visas in the Philippines.
The complete list of documents can be consulted on the website of the consulate. During the processing time the consulate may, in individual cases, ask you to submit additional information or documents or you may be contacted for an interview.

Study Programmes
Erasmus+ is the European Union’s programme for education, training, youth and sport. Between 2014 and 2020, it will provide opportunities for four million people to study, train and gain life experience abroad.
Erasmus+ replaces a number of older programmes, including an international exchange programme called Erasmus Mundus.
See the Erasmus+ web portal’s Resources section for information about linguistic support, documents for applicants and the management of proposals.
The European Documentation Centre (EDC), covering an area of roughly 300 sqm., is currently located on the ground floor of the De La Salle University Library, Philippines. It was conceived as a project of the European Commission in collaboration with the European Studies Consortium of the Philippines.
The European Studies Consortium composed of De La Salle University (DLSU), Ateneo de Manila University (ADMU), and the University of the Philippines (UP), signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the European Commission (EC) to promote European studies among a number of high level academic institutions in the Philippines, and to reach out to the Philippine business community in creating improved awareness of the EU as a business partner. It started work in June 1997 but was formally inaugurated on June 25, 1998.
The official status as a documentation centre for the EDC was granted in January 1998.
