Travelling to the EU
Visa and Passports requirements
If you are a national from a non-EU country and wish to travel to the EU or within its borders, you need a passport that is:
- Valid for three months after the expected exit date from the EU country where you are located.
- Issued less than ten years ago.
And, possibly, a visa. You can request a visa at the consulate or embassy of the country you wish to visit. If the visa is from a country in the Schengen space you can automatically travel to other Schengen countries. Moreover, in some Schengen countries, a valid residency permit is equivalent to a visa. However, to visit countries not located in the Schengen space you might need a national visa.
Border officials in EU countries may ask for other documents: an invitation letter, proof of stay or a return ticket. To know the exact requirements, please get in touch with consular services for the specific country.
Some countries’ nationals do not need a visa to visit the EU if the stay does not exceed the three-month mark. The list of countries whose nationals need a visa to travel to Ireland is somewhat different from that of the rest of EU countries.

Study in the EU
Erasmus+ is the EU’s programme that supports education, youth and sport in Europe that offers opportunities for studying, acquiring experience and volunteering.
Who can participate?
Erasmus+ is open to a lot of people and organisations, even though the criteria of admission varies according to the type of action and country. Individuals (students or teaching personnel) can participate in many opportunities financed by Erasmus+, most of them do it through an organisation that is part of the programme. Admission criteria for particulars and organisations depend on the country where they reside.
For more information regarding admission criteria, you can visit the websites for specific opportunities for individuals and organisations and the Programme Guide.
