Visas

Through the EEA Agreement, Norwegians can work in another EEA country. They can also study or settle based on sufficient funds and health insurance in another EEA country. As an EEA citizen, you have the right to stay in any EEA country for a period of up to 90 days as long as you have a valid identity card or passport. More information on EEA rights can be found here.

Erasmus+

Erasmus+ is the European Union’s programme for education, training, youth and sport for the period 2014-2020, and it is the world's largest educational programme. Norway participates on an equal footing with EU countries as a programme country in Erasmus+. Information about the new Erasmus+ for 2021-2027 will be published soon.

Who can participate?

Erasmus+ supports education, training, internships and voluntary work abroad. The programme includes pupils, students, recent graduates and employees at education and training institutions.

Students can receive support for undertaking a semester or traineeship abroad as long as it is an integral part of their education. Erasmus+ funding is available to students at Bachelor and Master levels, as well as for Doctoral candidates.

Employees at higher education institutions or companies can receive support for teaching or training.

Programme countries in Erasmus+ include the 27 EU countries, the three EEA countries, as well as the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia and Turkey in addition to partner countries. See Erasmus+ for more information on who can apply for support.

Who can apply?

Norwegian higher education institutions can apply for support for their students or employees through Erasmus+.

All higher education institutions have to enter into an inter-institutional agreement with a partner institution before student and employee mobility can begin.

There is one agreement text that applies to all agreements with institutions in programme countries, and one that applies to agreements with institutions in partner countries (countries outside the EU/EEA). Agreement templates are available on the pages of the European Commission.

Students or employees cannot apply themselves but have to contact the international coordinator at their university or college.

Norwegian participation

The Norwegian Agency for International Cooperation and Quality Enhancement in Higher Education (DIKU) is the national agency for education and sports, while the youth section of the new programme (Youth in Action) is administered by the Norwegian Directorate for Children, Youth and Family Affairs.
