The nexus between livelihoods, protection and women’s empowerment – Syrian refugees

11.03.2021

The discussion serves as a call to action for international and national partners to critically examine how they are working to support the empowerment of Syrian refugee women across the region, and to set out a framework for engagement – leveraging livelihoods and protection interventions – that can support women’s protection and empowerment.

It will also serve as an opportunity to launch the findings of new UN Women, United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), International Labour Organization research on the issue of protection, livelihoods and gender equality, and to ensure these findings are built into programming going forward.

The high-level regional discussion will serve as a kick-off to country level discussions, with international partner, implementers and other national partners engaged in issues of refugee protection and gender equality.

Speakers will include:

Sawa Foundation, Dr. Rouba Mhaissen, Founder

UN Women, Susanne Mikhail, Regional Director, Arab States

UNHCR, Ayman Gharaibeh, Regional Director, Middle East and North Africa

ILO, Dr. Ruba Jaradat, Assistant Director General and Regional Director for Arab States

Organiser: UN Women, United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), International Labour Organization (ILO)
