Once again Somalia has been victim of a terrorist attack, which caused numerous casualties following the assault on the Ambassador Hotel in central Mogadishu yesterday.

Amongst those killed were two lawmakers. The democratic institutions in Somalia play a pivotal role in rebuilding Somalia and in strengthening governance.

Our condolences go to the families of the victims, and to all Somali people and the leaders of the country.

Unity must prevail to overcome differences in the run-up to the elections later this year. As the EU we will continue to support the building of legitimate institutions and a robust Somali security sector to counter terrorism.
