TRAINING OF TRAINERS
EUCAP Sahel Mali and the École Nationale de Police (ENP) have jointly facilitated two instructional sessions during which 12 previously-selected Malian trainers have received training in coaching, ToT and andragogy over the course of two consecutive periods: 2 – 12 April and 20 – 31 May.
These coaching activities have paved the way for the skill transfer phase, which is itself divided into two waves, reflecting the “cascade methodology” aimed at efficiently training many trainees in large organizations. Finally, they have resulted in the handover of a pedagogical kit (Mallette pédagogique).
The skill transfer phase was rolled over three periods. The first wave took place on 3 – 21 June, with 46 police officers benefiting from instructional coaching.
The second wave kicked off on 5 August and will be completed on 23 August. This training was attended by 56 officers along with 10 trainers and 2 coordinators, all of whom are permanent staff at the ENP. The third wave is expected to take place in September.
This approach both illustrates and asserts EUCAP Sahel Mali’s involvement and long-standing commitment to help the Malian National Police build the required capacities, especially for its 150 personnel at the École Nationale de Police (100 trainers and 50 support staff) who will in turn lead the way for 600 newly recruited police officers due to join the ENP in the fall of 2024.
In the last quarter of 2024, EUCAP Sahel Mali will not only support the ENP by accompanying the Malian Police trainers while training the 600 men and women who will become police officers, but the Mission will also:
- Provide support staff with human resource and IT trainings
- Develop and hand over databases for human resource purposes
- Finance a Teaching Unit project including a library
By mobilizing its capacity-building and its security sector components along with its project section, EUCAP Sahel Mali supports the ENP’s primary goal to reach its full autonomy and operational capacity.
