It was a great honour for the European Security and Defence College to hold this important activity, together with the Interagency Law Enforcement Academy of Advanced Studies of Italy, for the third consecutive year.

The course was opened by Maurizio Vallone, Public Security Director-General, and Giuseppe Zuffanti, ESDC Coordinator for Cyber Issues, who explained that the aim of the course was to provide a better understanding of the main pillars of the EU’s Cybersecurity Strategy for the Digital Decade and the cybersecurity priorities outlined in the EU’s Strategic Compass.

The training session hosted more than 40 participants in a fully residential format. Attendees included law enforcement, civilian, military and diplomatic personnel from the Member States, EU national authorities, EU institutions and delegations and various other EU bodies.

The course was organised as a forum in which experts from the Member States, EU institutions and agencies and the private sector not only gave lectures on cyber issues but also had an opportunity to interact with participants and inform them about current and future developments on a strategic, tactical and operational level in the context of the EU’s Cybersecurity Strategy.

Moreover, one added value of this course was that it was also attended by law enforcement personnel attending the Italian Advanced Training Course.

The ESDC would like to thank the speakers/experts for their excellent contributions and valuable input and suggestions, and in particular:

all the distinguished lecturers from the main stakeholders of the European cyber ecosystem: European Commission, Council of Europe, EEAS, ENISA, EDA, Europol, EU-LISA, EUISS, ECTEG and Hybrid CoE;

all the distinguished speakers from the main stakeholders of the Italian cyber ecosystem: the Minister for Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Defence, the National Cybersecurity Agency and the National Anti-Crime Computer Centre for the protection of critical infrastructure.

As provided for by Section 22 of Law No 121 of 1 April 1981, the Italian Interagency Law Enforcement Academy of Advanced Studies, which is attached to the Public Security Department of the Ministry of the Interior, is the single training institute representing all the national police forces, as well as the first example of an interagency academy in Europe.
