Bringing Together Stakeholders for Climate Action
Bringing Together Stakeholders for Climate Action
With the urgency of climate change becoming increasingly clear, and the need to ensure a net-zero future transitioning away from fossil fuels, the European Union has launched a new ambitious project – the EU-Cooperation with the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) on Green Transition, which brings together various regional stakeholders – government officials, private sector, technical experts, NGOs, and academia.
Key Objectives
- Facilitating Collaboration via knowledge exchange and partnerships between EU and GCC stakeholders on climate change mitigation, adaptation, and finance. Key focus areas include clean energy (renewable energy, renewable hydrogen, energy efficiency, storage), carbon capture, sustainable finance, and circular economies.
- Promoting Green Policies and Technologies through supporting the adoption of policies and technologies that drive the green transition within the GCC at both regional and individual country levels.
- Enhancing the Business Environment to improve the business environment and collaborations for EU companies, particularly SMEs, in the GCC's green sectors.
- Establishing a platform for Knowledge Exchange and Networking between public, private, and civil society representatives from the EU and GCC.
A platform for Knowledge Exchange and Networking
This collaborative project is a central platform for exchanging information and networking. Collaborating with existing programs and networks of public and private sectors from the EU and GCC strengthens the EU’s ongoing efforts and positively impacts the climate agenda
The Project's Four Key Components
- Green Transition: Identifying opportunities, fostering policy dialogues, and supporting European companies in the GCC's green sectors.
- Renewable Hydrogen Market: Establish a Working Group on Green Hydrogen, conduct studies, and develop a strategic plan for a global market.
- Circular Economy & Nature-based Solutions: Facilitating knowledge exchange and promoting business opportunities related to circular economies and nature-based solutions with a focus on climate change adaptation.
- Climate Diplomacy: Raising awareness and fostering engagement among non-state stakeholders on climate action.
