The European Union and Haiti are partners who have maintained friendly relations for many years, due to very strong historical, cultural and linguistic ties. This relationship, which has gradually been strengthened and enriched, is formalized within the framework of the overall agreement of the European Union with the African-Caribbean-Pacific (ACP) countries, known as the Cotonou Agreement initialed in 2000, which has since become post-Cotonou agreement following its renegotiation on April 21, 2021

Political relations and development partnership are the two main pillars of this cooperation, the essential purpose of which is to enable Haiti to address the many development challenges, in particular by supporting the key sectors of education, infrastructure, food and nutrition security, governance and state reform.

The European Union pays particular attention to human rights, democracy and the rule of law, values which have been at the heart of its creation and its history, and which continue to guide and direct decisions and actions. of all its institutions. In Haiti, it promotes these values by providing financial support to various projects and programs aimed, among other things, at combating sexual violence against women and girls, prolonged preventive detention, improving prison conditions, the marginalization of LGBTI people.

Despite the numerous economic and structural crises that have constantly affected Haiti, the European Union is determined to remain at the country's side, by gradually adapting its tools and support mechanisms to the new dynamics in order to be more effective, and effectively help the Haitian population to live in dignity.

Our Delegation:

• Cooperates, initiates, implements, monitors and evaluates development programs in priority areas of intervention.
• Represents the interests of the European Union and its institutions.
• Informs about the actions and projects of the European Union in the Republic of Haiti.
• Coordinates its action with the Embassies and cooperation services of the member countries of the European Union present in Haiti and with other international partners (United Nations, international organizations, diplomatic missions, other donors, NGOs, etc.).

The European Union Delegation in Haiti has more than 50 staff members. It is currently headed by Ambassador H.E.M. Stefano Gatto.
