Fiji's recent ratification of the United Nations Convention Against Torture and other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment is an important step in promoting and respecting human rights.  The European Union stands ready to assist Fiji in the full implementation of this key human rights convention. We expect the Fijian authorities to lift in due course the reservations lodged upon ratification.

The EU encourages all countries worldwide to ratify the UN Convention on Torture and to respect its provisions.
