Who we are
Tēnā koutou, tēnā koutou, tēnā koutou katoa and welcome to the website of the European Union's Delegation to Aotearoa New Zealand.
Established in Wellington in May 2004, the Delegation provides information to New Zealanders about the European Union, its policies and activities; and engages with the New Zealand government and its people. The Delegation welcomes any feedback you may have - please contact us if you have any questions.
What we do
The European Union and New Zealand share a strong historical, cultural, economic and political relationship that has grown and developed over many decades.
The Delegation in particular:
- Ensures the representation of the European Union in New Zealand.
- Maintains and develops bilateral relations in accordance with the 2016 EU-New Zealand Partnership Agreement for Relations and Cooperation in the areas of political, economic, trade, development, education, research, science, and technology, transport, environment and cultural cooperation.
- Contributes to coordination with EU Member States Embassies.
- Reports back to Brussels on all matters of interest.
- Works towards increasing the visibility, awareness and understanding of the EU in New Zealand.
- Carries out press and public diplomatic activities in pursuit of the above.

Who we are
The Political and Development section monitors the work of the New Zealand Parliament, Government, administration and civil society on foreign and development policies, counterterrorism, democratic resilience, and human rights.
The Trade and Economy section monitors trade and regulatory developments in New Zealand, including agriculture and climate action.
Press and Public Diplomacy
The Press and Public Diplomacy section works to enhance awareness of the EU in New Zealand. From social media to close journalist relationships, the section serves as the Delegation’s first line of contact with the public and press.
The Administration section provides support services to the Delegation staff, building, and Residence through the authorized allocation of budgetary resources. It also liaises with authorities in Europe and New Zealand on protocol and administrative matters.
