ABOUT US
Who we are
The EU maintains a network of over 140 delegations worldwide. The delegations are diplomatic missions representing the European Union in third countries. They work in close coordination with the diplomatic missions of EU Member States. Delegations promote EU interests and values around the world. They implement EU external policy and action, from common foreign and security policy, through trade and development cooperation, to scientific and technical relations, as well as humanitarian assistance.
What we do
The EU Delegation promotes good relations between Libya and the European Union and engages with the Libyan government, community representatives, civil society and media.
The EU Delegation works closely with the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL), EU Member States and other partners working towards the stabilization and democratic transition of Libya.
The EU is a leading donor of humanitarian and development assistance to Libya, providing a wide range of programs and projects in various sectors, including governance, health, local development, human rights and civil society, economic development, and migration management.
External to the EU Delegation, the EU is also operating two Common Security and Defense Policy (CSDP) missions in support of Libya, EUNAVFOR Med Operation IRINI and the EU Border Assistance Mission in Libya (EUBAM). These missions help to enforce of the UN arms embargo and assist Libya in managing its borders, aiming at disrupting the business model of human smugglers.
