Message from the Ambassador of the European Union to the Republic of Kazakhstan

Dear Guest,

Welcome to the website of the Delegation of the European Union to Kazakhstan! This site offers quick access to all EU news and information about the EU institutions and policies. Since you turned to our site, my guess is that you are interested in developments in the EU-Kazakhstan bilateral relations, Central Asian region as a whole or our Delegation's activities in this country. You will find this and more here.

Kazakhstan is an important partner for the European Union from the day of the country’s independence. The agreement establishing diplomatic relations between the EU and Kazakhstan was signed on 2 February 1993. Our cooperation has been expanding and deepening in these last decades in many areas. I wish to particularly emphasise the trade relations, with EU being the largest trading partner here, the green agenda and the need to preserve environment and the connectivity: in transport, in digital and in people-to-people contacts. The EU is also investing in Kazakhstan in programmes in the fields of education, scientific research, civil society development, human rights, and youth policy.

On 21 December 2015 we signed the Enhanced Partnership and Cooperation Agreement (EPCA) and this is the main document framing the EU’s relations with Kazakhstan. The EPCA entered into force on 1 March 2020 – as the first one in Central Asia – and provides a significant boost to economic and political ties between the EU and Kazakhstan. It offers concrete cooperation opportunities in 29 key policy areas, including in the sectors of economic and financial cooperation, energy, transport, environment and climate change, employment and social affairs, culture, education and research. Since 2024, the EU has a dedicated tool – Cooperation Facility – that allows us to financially support our cooperation with Kazakhstan under the EPCA.

In today’s complex geopolitical situation, the EU and Kazakhstan are on the same side of promoting peace, supporting multilateralism and enforcing the respect for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of all states. The EU continues constructive dialogue with Kazakhstan on keeping this principled approach in its actions. Kazakhstan and the EU share the vision of peace and prosperity for all and have therefore a joint role to play within multilateral organisations and bilaterally.

I hope this website is a valuable information resource. We will be pleased to hear and respond to any questions or comments. I also invite you to follow us on our social media accounts: X.com; Facebook; Instagram; LinkedIn; YouTube; Telegram.

Sincerely,

Aleška Simkić, Ambassador of the European Union to the Republic of Kazakhstan
