As the EU Ambassador to Japan, I am thrilled to welcome you on this platform, and hope you will find it an insightful window to the work carried out by the European Union (EU) and our Delegation in Japan.

Since arriving in Tokyo, I have personally witnessed our bilateral ties deepen and broaden on all fronts, from the seamless coordination of actions in response to Russia's full-scale war of aggression against Ukraine to the progress made under our EU-Japan Digital Partnership.

Many of our citizens live, study and work in each other's countries, and benefit on a personal level from the close relationship that the EU and Japan have built for more than five decades. Today, Japan is one of the EU’s closest strategic partners, and I sincerely believe that our societies benefit from this ever-closer partnership.

The futures of the EU and the Indo-Pacific are inextricably linked given the interdependence of our economies and the common global challenges. Our partnership can play an important role in helping to shape an inclusive, sustainable, prosperous, free and open international order based on the rule of law. By tackling such global challenges as the climate and biodiversity crises, human security and development, or a human-centric digitalisation and technology development; and by offering a platform for joint efforts in critical areas such as security and defence and de-risking our economies.
