Travel & Study
Useful information on travelling from Hong Kong or Macao to the EU, such as visas, travel restrictions and consulates, and for studying there.
VISA
All European Union Member States, with the exception of Ireland, have a unified visa system as part of the Schengen area. Three non-Member States — Iceland, Norway, and Switzerland — are also part of the Schengen area and also implement the unified system. Bulgaria, Cyprus, and Romania are not yet part of the Schengen area, but maintain the same immigration policies as required by Schengen. Liechtenstein has signed up to Schengen but has yet to implement it. Ireland maintains independent immigration policies.
Nationals of European Union Member States, and of Iceland, Norway, Switzerland, and Liechtenstein are not only visa-exempt but are legally entitled to enter and reside in each other's countries, following the requirement of the EU's freedom of movement provisions, the European Economic Area Agreement and bilateral accords with Switzerland.
Hong Kong Special Administrative Region passport holders do not require a visa to enter the Schengen area. Other nationals may need a Schengen visa. For more information on this, please check with your travel agent and respective EU embassies/consulates-general.

Erasmus+ is the EU's programme supporting education, training, youth and sport in Europe for the period 2014-2020. It provides opportunities to study, train, gain work experience and volunteer abroad, and replaces several previous programmes including the international cooperation programmes such as Erasmus Mundus. Hong Kong and Macao are Partner countries of the programme.
