This isn't an official website of the European Union

The European Union Delegation in Libreville is among the 145 diplomatic representations of the European Union around the world, it covers the Gabonese Republic, the Republic of São Tomé and Príncipe and the Economic Community of Central Africa States (ECCAS).

Our purpose

The role of the EU Delegation is to make the European Union’s external actions more coherent, efficient, and impactful, thereby strengthening the EU's influence globally. Delegations and their representatives maintain permanent contact with national authorities, economic stakeholders, civil society, and other diplomatic missions, including development agencies.

The EU Delegation cooperates with various societal stakeholders based on universal values of tolerance, non-discrimination, dialogue, and respect for human rights.

It plays a key role in programming, monitoring, and managing European aid mobilized to support the Gabonese and São Toméan populations in their sustainable development efforts. The European Union’s actions align with its Global Gateway approach, which aims to tackle global challenges by developing reliable and sustainable connections in the fields of digitalization, energy, and transport while also strengthening health systems, education, and research worldwide.

Another essential aspect of the Delegation’s work is coordinating European actions with EU Member States accredited in the country through their respective embassies—particularly Germany, Spain, France, and Italy, present in Gabon, as well as Portugal, present in São Tomé and Príncipe. Together, the EU and its Member States form a team known as the "Team Europe", which pools their strength to provide more relevant, coordinated, and complementary responses.

However, the EU Delegation does not handle consular matters, which remain under the responsibility of Member States. It does not issue visas or passports.

The Delegation does not provide assistance to individuals or businesses outside the framework of calls for proposals and tenders, which are regularly published on its website.
