VISA AND TRAVEL

SCHENGEN VISA

Your Europe is an official website of the European Union providing up-to-date information on the requirements for travelling to Europe. Whether for vacation or business travel, you will find practical advice and tips on a variety of topics, from necessary documents for medical treatment to baggage restrictions.

Thanks to the Schengen Agreement, travelers can cross multiple borders within the EU without undergoing border control. Moreover, the introduction of the euro in 20 countries eliminated the costs and inconvenience of currency exchange.

Nationals from the Gabonese Republic and the Democratic Republic of São Tomé and Príncipe who wish to visit a Schengen area country must apply for a visa through the Embassy or General Consulate of the respective country. Note that European Union Delegation does not issue visas, sovereign Member States and/or their represented consular offices remain responsible for this service.

The Schengen visa is granted to citizens of Third States listed in Annex 1 of the Regulation (EU) 2018/1806. This visa allows a traveler to stay within the Schengen area for up to 90 days maximum (on all the day period) for purposes such as tourism, business travel, family visit or medical treatment, short-term training, unpaid internship or volunteering lasting less than three months, and other non-remunerative activities. It also covers territorial and airport transit.

While the Schengen Visa allows travel to and within Schengen Area, entry is not guaranteed. Borders’ authorities may deny entry to a person holding a Schengen visa if the individual fails to provide documents justifying the purpose and the conditions of their stays or if the person does not meet entry conditions.

Germany does not have a General Consulate in Gabon. Please contact the General Consulate of France in Libreville to request a Schengen visa if Germany is your primary travel destination and Gabon is your primary residency. For other visa types (studies, family regrouping, work, etc.), please contact the visa section of the Embassy of Germany in Yaoundé.

France-visas is the official website for submitting and monitoring your visa application for France. France represents the following non-EU Member States for the issue of short-stay visas: Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Estonia, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg and the Netherlands. Switzerland is also represented by France for the issue of Schengen visas.

The Spanish Embassy in Libreville also processes this type of visa for Portugal and Sweden.

The Italian Embassy in Libreville also has a consular service responsible for issuing Schengen visas. Italy also represents Slovenia for the issue of Schengen visas.

ENTRY TO GABON

To enter the Gabonese Republic, citizens from countries of the European Union need a valid passport of at least 3 months and a visa. The entry visa in Gabon is mandatory for Member States Citizens and can be obtained from the diplomatic representations of the Gabonese Republic (Embassies).

It is also possible to make a request through the online visa service E-visa, which allows you to travel and obtain an entry visa upon arrival at the border. In this case, the visa is delivered to the airport of Libreville but it remains mandatory to bring all supporting document pieces for the request, including the entry authorization, and to pay the processing fee of 45,000 francs CFA or 70 euros in cash.

Yellow Fever vaccination is mandatory for entry into the country.

ENTRY TO SÃO TOMÉ AND PRÍNCIPE

European Union citizens with a passport valid for at least 3 months can stay in São Tomé and Príncipe without a visa for a period that does not exceed 15 days. For longer stays than 15 days, a visa must be obtained from the Embassy of São Tomé and Príncipe in Lisbonne. ([email protected])

Since June 15th, 2016, a tourist tax of 75,000 dobras (approximately 3.5 euros per tourist and per night) applies to hotel stays and cruise trips of travel agencies.

STUDY

Erasmus+ is a European Union program supporting education, training, youth and sport in Europe. The 2021-2027 program emphasizes social inclusion, ecological transition, digitalization and the promotion of youth participation in democratic life. It supports priorities and activities aligned with the European education area, the digital education action plan and the Europe skills strategy.

Erasmus+ offers mobilities and cooperation opportunities in areas such as:

  • Higher education
  • Vocational Education and Training
  • School education (including early childhood education and care education)
  • Adult education
  • Youth
  • Sport

Organizations in non-EU countries can participate in some actions of the Erasmus+ Programme. Within the Erasmus+ context, those countries are referred to as “Third countries non-associated (partner countries)”. For other nationals from third countries, some opportunities exist such as the joint master Erasmus Mundus (Gabon and São Tomé and Príncipe are eligible countries) or the international dimension of students and staff exchange (if your university participates in this) and exchange programmes for young people.

All information is available on Erasmus+.
