EUNAVFOR ASPIDES Award
Personnel from EUNAVFOR ASPIDES were recently recognized in two separate medal ceremonies for their service and commitment to the mission. Operation Commander of EUNAVFOR ASPIDES, Rear Admiral Vasileios Gryparis (Hellenic Navy), awarded the EUNAVFOR ASPIDES medal to the personnel at the Operation Headquarters (OHQ) in Larissa, acknowledging their exceptional commitment to the mission. Similarly, personnel serving aboard the ITS Caio Duilio at Force Headquarters (FHQ) were recognized by OHQ Chief of Staff, Captain Symeon Tsagkadas (Hellenic Navy), who presented them with the EUNAVFOR ASPIDES medal for their continued excellence and contribution to the operation. These awards acknowledge the efforts of those involved in supporting the operation’s objectives.

Strengthening Regional Cooperation
On December 16, a high-level delegation led by Lieutenant General Michiel van der Laan, DG EUMS/MPCC, and EU Ambassador Denisa-Elena Ionete visited the Force Headquarters aboard the ITS Caio Duilio, where they were welcomed by EUNAVFOR ASPIDES Force Commander Commodore Konstantinos Pitykakis, who briefed them on ongoing operations. This visit underscored the importance of shared efforts in promoting regional stability and security. Later, on December 21 and 25, the ITS Caio Duilio hosted key Italian figures, including Undersecretary of State for Defence, Mr. Matteo Perego di Cremnago, and the Chief of the Italian Navy, Admiral Enrico Credendino. These visits highlighted the crucial role of coordination and leadership in maintaining the operation’s momentum and ensuring its continued success.

Merchant Vessels Close Protection
The Italian destroyer Caio Duilio successfully completed a series of close protection missions for merchant vessels, ensuring the security of vital maritime trade routes. EUNAVFOR ASPIDES' efforts continue to contribute to regional prosperity and economic growth by safeguarding safe passage for global commerce.

EUNAVFOR ASPIDES Asset Saves Lives
On January 11, ITS Caio Duilio successfully conducted a Search and Rescue (SAR) operation in the Bab Al Mandeb Strait, rescuing a Yemeni national from a sinking boat. The rescued individual was safely handed over to the Djiboutian authorities on January 13. This operation highlights EUNAVFOR ASPIDES’ continued commitment to the safety and protection of seafarers' lives.
