Managing Director for Africa at EEAS visits EUMAM MOZ
During the visit, the entire delegation attended a briefing conducted by the Deputy Mission Force Commander of EUMAM MOZ, Colonel Vesa Laitonen, on the current situation in Mozambique in the fight against insurgency and on the work taking place within the framework of the EUMAM MOZ.
This visit is of great importance for Mozambique and the African continent. It reinforces the European Union's (EU) commitment to promoting strategic partnerships centred on peace, prosperity, people and the planet.

It also symbolises the strengthening of European support to Mozambican efforts to combat insurgency in Cabo Delgado, through EUMAM MOZ.
The EU has provided more than €3.5 billion for the African Peace and Security agenda and is an active partner for peace in the African continent with civilian and military missions, EUMAM MOZ is one of multiple examples.
EUMAM MOZ is a non-executive mission with a mandate until June 2026. It started in September 2024 and is a logical continuation of European Union Training Mission who was launched in 2021. EUMAM MOZ focusses on the operational training cycle and maintenance, while also conducting specialised training, mentoring and advising to enable the Defence Armed Forces of Mozambique to be self-sufficient in fighting the insurgency.
