Legal Advisor at EUMAM MOZ

One aim of the European Union Military Assistance Mission Mozambique (EUMAM MOZ) is to provide military assistance to the Mozambican Armed Forces (FADM) to be in compliance with the international human rights (IHR) and international humanitarian law (IHL) in strategic and operational level, including respecting the rule of law.

This task needs wide range of experts and Legal Advisor (LEGAD) is one of them. LEGAD is part of the specialised staff of the Command Support Group and is a full-time role that requires adequate training, education and experience. In general, LEGAD provides support to ensure that integration of IHR and IHL is done both on external and internal levels, and on internal level also European Union law is respected.

 

On everyday basis LEGAD provides legal advice to EUMAM MOZ. This covers wide range of task such as:

  • helps other areas with contractual matters to ensure that EUMAM MOZ interests are represented as well as possible and oversees the enforcement of these contracts by EUMAM MOZ partners;
  • provides advise related to compliance with EUMAM MOZ internal rules;
  • conducts Rules of Engagements and use of force presentations to EUMAM MOZ personnel;
  • assists EUMAM MOZ members in case of different legal matters or incidents such as traffic accidents;
  • leads and supports the development and delivery of IHR and IHL trainings modules to the FADM.

By fulfilling these responsibilities LEGAD helps to ensure that EUMAM MOZ activities comply with legal standards and are within the bound of law.

EUMAM-MOZ is composed by 80 military and civilian personnel from 10 European Union 🇪🇺 member states, Belgium, Estonia, Finland, France, Greece, Italy, Lithuania, Portugal, Romania, Spain and one non-European Union member state, Serbia.

Each area from the mission carry with them a great responsibility and importance so that, in the end, the European Union successfully concludes the military assistance mission in Mozambique.
