The Delegation of the European Union to Vietnam is pleased to present the 23rd European Film Festival Edition in Vietnam, taking place between 14–28 November 2024 in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City.
EUFF 2024 presents a selection of 18 films, many of which have won prestigious awards at film festivals all over the world. Introducing a cast of ordinary characters who find themselves in circumstances that are anything but business-as-usual, the films follow them to the outer edges of comfort zones, to countryside villages, the feudal court, a post-war city, amongst many other settings.
Staying true to cinema’s long-standing tradition of holding up a mirror to real life, these films prompt the audience to reflect upon their own experiences.
The festival officially opens on 14 November in Hanoi with the official Vietnam premiere of the Polish animation film The Peasants – based on one of Poland’s classic work of literature and produced by the same team behind the much-renowned Loving Vincent.
The evening after, EUFF 2024 travels to Ho Chi Minh City, the first screening for which will be the Spanish film 20,000 Species of Bees – set in the beautiful Basque country, the film is a moving tale of a transgender girl, her search for identity, and her connections with the loving family around her.
In addition to the daily screenings, EUFF 2024 brings about a series of exciting side events, including three in-depth workshops specifically designed for Vietnamese film professionals led by European experts, an online film review competition, post-screening discussions with the audience moderated by film critic Le Hong Lam, amongst others.
