Introduction
Welcome to the 23rd European Film Festival in Vietnam! Returning this year as a special autumnal edition, the festival takes place in Hanoi and HCMC between 14–28 November 2024.
The 18 films of EUFF 2024 present a cast of ordinary characters who find themselves in circumstances that are anything but business-as-usual, and follow them to the outer edges of comfort zones and into innermost psyches, to countryside villages, the feudal court, to a maze-like city, a post-war city, a fairy-tale city, amongst many other settings. Staying true to cinema’s long-standing tradition of holding up a mirror to real life, these films prompt us to reflect, shed light on our own existences, dream up other perspectives, ponder big decisions.
And for every tension and struggle, we also feel beauty and tenderness: in idyllic summer holidays, in distant lights out on the ocean at night, sibling hugs, conversations with friends in the shades of trees… Reminders of the uniquely immersive experience of film-watching and the universal power of cinema as a source of solace, as the present fades into the past, as the world goes on.
EUFF 2024 is brought to you by the EU Delegation to Vietnam, in cooperation with Embassies and cultural institutions representing EU Member States, with special guest the Embassy of Ukraine in Vietnam.

Want to start a new film festival? Perhaps you’re just interested in sharing queer films or wondering if film is the right industry for you after that physics degree? Maybe you just really like watching LGBTQ+ cinema and want to know more about the ecosystem around it. No matter your background, this workshop will explore these topics by telling the story of how Queer Wave came to be.
