EUCAP Field Office Puntland and Red Sea University strengthen legal and academic cooperation in Puntland
EUCAP Somalia’s Head of Field Office Puntland (FOPL), alongside the EUCAP Human Rights Advisor and the EUCAP FOPL Legal Officer, held a significant meeting with key legal and academic representatives in Bosaso. The meeting brought together the Judge of the First Instance Court of Bossaso, the Dean of the Faculty of Law at Red Sea University (RSU), the President of RSU, and the Vice President of RSU to discuss judicial support and institutional collaboration.
A key highlight of the meeting was the handover of 50 copies of the Somali Penal Code (in Somali language), prepared by the Legal Section of FOPL, and donated to the Bossaso District Court. The Judge of the First Instance Court of Bossaso emphasized the significance of this donation in supporting legal proceedings and improving access to legal resources for judicial staff.
Following the donation, EUCAP FOPL representatives engaged in a strategic discussion with Red Sea University leadership to explore potential areas of collaboration. The dialogue focused on building institutional partnerships and fostering cooperation on key legal and maritime issues.
Both parties identified several areas for future collaboration, including:
- Enhancing maritime domain awareness
- Strengthening the rule of law
- Promoting human rights protection
- Fostering maritime research and legal education
The meeting underscored the mutual commitment to improving legal education, judicial efficiency, and maritime governance in Puntland. Moving forward, FOPL and Red Sea University will engage in further discussions to develop concrete initiatives that address these shared priorities.
This engagement reflects EUCAP’s ongoing efforts to support rule of law development and academic collaboration in Puntland, reinforcing the broader mission of enhancing stability, governance, and security in the region.
