"We congratulate the Central African Republic on the validation of these two key texts, which allow for the modernisation of the ISF and constitute an important step towards securing the country," summarises José Marques Dias, Head of the EUAM RCA. For two years, the advisors of the Mission, in collaboration with other international partners, have supported the representatives of the two internal state security corps in the development of these fundamental texts. They strengthen the institutional capacity and create a reliable legal framework to thoroughly restructure the organisation of the Police and Gendarmerie, and meet the needs of the Central African population in terms of protection in the face of security challenges. "These adaptations represent a step in an in-depth structural reform. We are very honoured to be able to accompany our Central African partners in the next decisive work phase of this fundamental reform and to continue our fruitful collaboration", summarises the Head of the EUAM RCA Mission.

In a nutshell: The Central African Republic, which is about the size of France, is one of the poorest countries in the world. Half of the population depends on humanitarian aid and a quarter is on the run. This is due to a civil war that has lasted for decades and the population is still suffering from the aggression of different armed groups. EUAM RCA supports the reform of the ISF so that the state can regain control of the country. Currently, the ISF are mainly based in the capital.
