Useful information about the different projects between the European Union and Ethiopia.
Stemming Irregular Migration in Northern and Central Ethiopia (SINCE)
The main focus of the SINCE project, closed in March 2021, was to enhance the employability skills of potential migrants, create and strengthen Public-Private Partnerships, reinforce the existing economic value chains, and support the clustering of micro and small enterprises.
The project contributed to the reduction of irregular migration from the main migrant prone Regional States of Ethiopia – Addis Ababa, Amhara, Oromia, SNNP, and Tigray – by improving the living conditions of the most vulnerable populations, including potential migrants and returnees, with a specific focus on youth and women.
The specific objective of the SINCE programme was to create greater economic and employment opportunities especially for young people and women with a focus on rural towns and urban areas, including vocational training, creation of micro and small enterprises, and start-up of small livelihood activities. Some actions specifically supported Ethiopian returnees after their return to their place of origin.

As of the closure of the project, irregular migration from SINCE intervention areas was reduced on average by 28,6%, while the average income in those regions increased by 30,4%.
5,917 unemployed and/or inactive people were employed through job opportunities created under the SINCE programme, and the final beneficiaries enjoyed an average income increase of 59% as a consequence of employment creation.
In addition, 41 new or improved TVETs trainings based on market demand were developed under the programme, and more than 7,200 trainees completed the SINCE supported TVET trainings.

Sustainable Reintegration support to Ethiopian returnees from Europe
And support to vulnerable displaced populations affected by COVID19
This action aims to support the Government of Ethiopia, and mainly the Administration for Refugees and Returnees Affairs (ARRA), to provide comprehensive reintegration support to Ethiopians returning from Europe, and ultimately contribute to the development of a National Reintegration System for Ethiopia.
In particular, the project assists ARRA and the other relevant stakeholders to build their capacities to implement their mandate on reintegration, and provides ARRA with the necessary financial, human, and technical resources to enhance services for and address the needs of vulnerable displaced populations in Ethiopia facing the COVID-19 pandemic.

Indeed, its adverse consequences are being felt especially by the most vulnerable groups, including returnees, refugees, IDPs, stranded migrants, and host populations already living in dire conditions and without proper access to basic services.

CRRF Urban Development and Mobility in Assosa town
This project aims at providing direct support to Assosa town, in the Benishangul-Gumuz Regional State, given that the existing low coverage of basic services is being further exacerbated by a high concentration of displaced people. The project supports the municipality to improve urban planning and basic service provision, as well as the creation of spaces for communal dialogue. The action seeks to address these gaps, and ultimately contributes to increasing the safety and well-being of displaced populations (refugees, IDPs, migrants) and their host communities living in urban or peri-urban settings around Assosa. This way, it reduces tensions between these groups over the otherwise scarce resources available.
The Specific Objectives of this project are to strengthen public, private, and civil society service delivery capacities, resources, and infrastructure, to the benefit of host communities and displaced populations, as well as to enhance inclusion and participation of displaced persons in the economic and social life of Assosa town.

In Ethiopia, the project is reinforced by the regional component of this action, which is establishing peer networks and a platform for dialogue across key stakeholders, notably municipalities, to promote innovation, learning, and the adoption of best practices.
