Advancing EU-Ethiopia Relations Across Diverse Fields

Dear visitors,

Welcome to the official website of the Delegation of the European Union to Ethiopia. Here, you will find the latest news, updates, and information about the strong partnership between the European Union and Ethiopia, our joint initiatives, and the many areas in which we collaborate.

As part of the global network of diplomatic missions under the European External Action Service, the EU Delegation plays a crucial role in implementing foreign and security policies in close cooperation with EU Member States. It is also responsible for overseeing and coordinating EU programming in Ethiopia, ensuring that our development assistance and strategic projects align with the country's needs and priorities.

For over 40 years, the European Union and its Member States have been proud partners of Ethiopia. Today, supporting the Ethiopian Government's ambitious reform agenda is one of our key priorities.

The Strategic Engagement Agreement signed in June 2016 continues to serve as an essential framework for our collaboration. The EU is not only one of Ethiopia’s largest trading partners, but also a major development actor and one of the leading donors of humanitarian assistance.

Our cooperation extends across several vital sectors, including regional peace and security, counter-terrorism, migration, governance, and human rights. We are also committed to advancing the EU Global Gateway strategy, focusing on sustainable investments that make a tangible difference in the lives and livelihoods of citizens. In Ethiopia, this means directing efforts towards key areas such as the green economy, agri-food systems, and digitalization.

Additionally, cultural diplomacy, EU scholarships, higher education capacity building, and consular services—including Schengen visa cooperation—remain integral to our work.

I look forward to further strengthening our collaboration with the Ethiopian Government, civil society, the private sector, and international partners. Please follow our latest updates and activities on our social media platforms:

H.E. Mrs. Sofie From-Emmesberger, Ambassador of the European Union to Ethiopia.
