Virtual Art Exhibition “Connections: 12 Symbols and Meanings”
This online art exhibition (www.12symbols.uz), was launched on May 17, right after the period of strict quarantine, is response of the EU Delegation in Uzbekistan to extraordinary circumstances. In times, when museums and galleries are closed, we transformed the original idea of physical exhibition to a digital one.
This art project is an invitation to celebrate the ‘Europe Day’, which is marked on May 9 throughout Europe and beyond. And in this case, by launching the exhibition on the International Museum Day, we have broadened the ‘Europe Day’ into ‘Europe Month’.
The exhibition is an invitation to recognize the founding values of European Union - respect for human dignity, freedom, democracy, equality, the rule of law and the respect for human rights, as well as, right to freedom of artistic expression and creativity.
By showcasing the paintings, photography and video art of remarkable Uzbek and European artists, we invite you to explore the meanings and concepts of 12 universal symbols.
The number twelve represents perfection, unity and cosmic order. There are 12 stars as a symbol of completeness in a circle on the European Union flag, representing unity among the people of Europe.
the EU Delegation in Uzbekistan thanks Uzbekistan partners that made this art journey possible - Ministry of Culture and Sports of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the Museum of Arts of Uzbekistan, the Karakalpakstan State Museum of Art named after I.V. Savitsky, the Fine Arts Gallery of Uzbekistan, and of course, the contemporary Uzbek artists.
The Exhibition will last from May 18 to 30, accompanied with wide social media campaign through the EU Delegation accounts in Instagram and Facebook! Take quizes, connect yourself to the symbols, explore and win!
