As a result of EU dialogues on illegal, unreported and unregulated fishing (IUU) as well as labour issues, Thailand became the first country in Asia to ratify the International Labour Organization (ILO) conventions on work in fisheries and forced labour. This means improved working conditions for the workers, many of whom are migrants, as well as a more sustainable fishing sector.
