The reinforced Election Expert Mission deployed by the European Union hands over today its final report on the general elections in Ecuador.

Following an invitation by the National Electoral Council on 18 December 2020, the European Union deployed on 17 January 2021 a team of 3 electoral experts to monitor the general elections in Ecuador, which took place on 7 February and 11 April 2021.

The Mission made a comprehensive assessment of the different phases and components of the electoral process until their completion in accordance with existing international, regional and national standards, as well as good practices, and provided recommendations for the improvement of future elections.

The Election Expert Mission has handed-over today its final report to the Minister of Foreign Affairs and to the National Electoral Council.

Despite some shortcomings and uncertainties due to pending decisions in the run-up to the elections, the electoral process was overall credible and transparent, and concluded successfully in the decisive verdict of Ecuadorian voters.
